An invisible ski gondola to mirror our energy

Hydro-Québec is a world leader in hydroelectricity. It is diversifying its sources of natural, sustainable energy to generate energy that will play an important role in meeting today’s pressing environmental issues. In fact, the electricity produced by Hydro-Québec is 99% clean, renewable energy. Few Quebecers, however, are aware of these efforts.

We set out to educate Quebecers at Le Massif de Charlevoix, a place where the three sources of this clean, renewable energy – the wind, sun and water – converge.

To achieve this, we created an invisible ski gondola by wrapping it with fully reflective material so that it merged with the landscape, turning it into a canvas for this trio of natural forces. This invisible vessel, dubbed the “Hydro Express,” piques the curiosity of onlookers and invites them to enter.

A 12-minute immersive experience, mixing lighting, video and narration, unfolds inside. The three sources of the province’s clean, renewable energy (wind, sun, water) are presented one after the other in real time thanks to an altimeter. The instrument, powered by rechargeable batteries, tracks the ascent, allowing the experience to run autonomously for the entire day.
